Mike Goldschmidt
General Manager
Cody Castle
Head Coach
Cody Castle, begins his first season with the Grand Lake Mariners as head coach, taking over for General Manager, Mike Goldschmidt in 2013. Castle is in his third season as the Marietta College pitching coach. He brings a combination of professional playing and collegiate coaching experience to the position. In addition to coaching the pitchers, Castle serves as the Pioneers' strength coach.
Under Castle's guidance, the Pioneer pitching staff led the nation in earned run average the past two seasons posting a 1.74 ERA in 2011 and a 2.35 ERA in 2012. The Pioneer hurlers have posted an incredible 14 shutouts in each of the past two seasons.
Castle spent the summer of 2010 as the pitching coach for the Elmira Pioneers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL). Elmira captured the West Division title with a 27-15 record and finished runner-up in the NYCBL Championship series. The Pioneers finished the regular season with a club-best 2.93 ERA, which ranked third in the 14-team league. They also set new club records for strikeouts, saves and opponents' batting average.
Castle was an assistant pitching coach with his alma mater Ashland University from 2007-09. During his time with the Eagles, the squad made three straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, highlighted by a trip to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament in 2008.
Castle played two seasons for Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, under Coach Goldschmidt, earning all-conference honors in 2002 and 2003. He left as school's career leader in wins. Castle transferred to Ashland where he was a two-year captain and earned all-conference and all-region honors in 2004. An academic all-conference honoree, Castle helped lead the Eagles to the 2006 NCAA Division II World Series.
Following the 2006 season, Castle played professionally for four seasons. He spent three years as the closer for the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League earning a trip to the 2008 league All-Star game. He played on season for the Quebec Capitales winning the Canadian-American League title in 2009.
Castle, a native of Dayton, Ohio, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and his K-12 Physical Education License from Ashland University in 2008. He lives in Marietta with his wife Jenn, the Pioneers' assistant softball coach.
Jeremy Jakubowski
Assistant Coach
Jeremy Jakubowski, will begin his first season with the Grand Lakes Mariners in 2013 as well, but Jeremy is no stranger to the Great Lakes League. After a stint last summer in the Prospect Leauge with the Danville Dans, Jakubowski returns to the GLCSL. He spent the summer of 2011 with the Licking County Settlers.
The past two years, Jeremy has been a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education. His duties included assisting the head coach and working with infielders and outfielders. Before his stint in Oklahoma, he has been an assistant at several high school programs in Ohio.
Jeremy finished up his college career at Shawnee State University, he graduated with a degree in Social sciences. The Rossford, Ohio native was a standout at Rossford High School at set several school records.
