Marcus Ernst Caden Kaiser Preston Jones
After a long hiatus from Mariners baseball at Montgomery Field, we are excited to introduce some of the players for this 2021 season! We’ve got the need-to-know info about the guys and some fun facts that will help you get to know the players’ personalities. We are starting with a few position players.
Marcus Ernst – Ohio State – 2B/3B
Marcus Ernst is the first player we are going to introduce. A native of Dublin, Ohio, Ernst attended Dublin Coffman High School where he hit .514 as a senior. He was also the quarterback on the football team and point guard on the basketball team. After high school, Ernst stayed nearby and went to Ohio State to play baseball and major in Finance. He played in 28 games his freshman year with the Buckeyes and hit .257. In the shortened 2020 season, Ernst hit .222 in six games. Now the second baseman/third baseman is hitting .175 including a multi-hit game against Nebraska where he had a double.
Ernst bats left and throws right. As an Ohio kid, he roots for the Reds, Bengals, and Cavaliers and says LeBron James is his favorite athlete. He is especially knowledgeable at quoting lines from “Major League”. Ernst’s favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption and he loves country music with Luke Combs being his favorite musical artist. After baseball, he dreams of working in the finance department for Nike. His best baseball memory was winning the Big Ten Tournament his freshman year at Ohio State in TD Ameritrade Park.
Caden Kaiser – Ohio State – 1B/OF
Our next Mariner to introduce is another Buckeye – Caden Kaiser. From Lewis Center, Ohio, Kaiser went to Olentangy High School and was a four-year letter winner in baseball. He also didn’t leave far by attending Ohio State – where he is a Sport Industry major. Kaiser didn’t see any action last year as a freshman but has played in eight games this year, starting in three of them.
Kaiser is a first baseman and outfielder and bats and throws left. He would like to be a college head coach down the road. He has a dog named Fergie, enjoys playing video games, and loves listening to music. Kaiser’s favorite food is pasta and his favorite movie is Connor McGregor: Notorious.
Preston Jones – Tennessee Martin – 3B/OF
The last player we’re going to look at for now is Preston Jones. Jones is from Alabama and attended Bessemer Academy. He was named the #2 third-base prospect in his class in Alabama by Perfect Game. He then attended Tennessee Martin and is majoring in Sports Business. He redshirted during the shortened 2020 season. This year, Jones has played in two games with a run and an RBI. The Skyhawks are 15-23 on the season.
Jones plays in the outfield in addition to third base. He bats and throws right-handed. Jones plays disc golf and can tell you anything you need to know about CrossFit. His favorite food is a grilled buffalo chicken wrap and his favorite TV show is NCIS. Jones has a white lab named Dolly and a cavapoo named Bigs.
