Out-of-Towners joining the 2021 Mariners

From left to right: Carson Herring, Caleb Cashion, Sam Seeker.

The next three incoming players that we’re going to get to know are all pitchers. They also come from college teams outside of Ohio. We are happy to welcome them to Celina this summer!

Carson Herring – Wallace Community College – P/OF

Carson Herring is from Rehobeth, Alabama. He plays at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, and is majoring in Civil Engineering. This season with the Governors, Herring has pitched in 11 games with a 1-0 record. In 13 innings pitched, he has 11 strikeouts and a 5.54 ERA. He earned the win on March 23rd against Central Alabama Community College when he pitched two no-hit innings with two strikeouts on the way to a 10-2 victory. Herring is just a freshman on the Governors squad that is 24-8 on the year.

Herring bats and throws right-handed. His team loyalties lie with the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Braves pitcher Max Fried is his favorite athlete. He enjoys working out, playing golf, hanging out with friends, and fishing. He also loves hunting and is particularly knowledgeable about setting up right to attract whitetail deer. His favorite TV show is The Andy Griffith Show, and Herring is especially proud of his well-roundedness between academics, athletics, and his social life.

Caleb Cashion – Wallace Community College – P/2B

Caleb Cashion grew up in Newnan, Georgia, and also joins us from Wallace Community College. His favorite baseball memory came from high school when his team celebrated a 14-inning walk-off game. He is studying Business Administration while playing at Wallace. In his freshman season, Cashion has played in the infield for the Governors and played in nine games. On April 7th, he had a hit and an RBI as Wallace went on to win 9-1.

Cashion bats and throws right-handed. He also is a Braves fan and says longtime Braves star and current hitting consultant Chipper Jones is his favorite player. Down the road, Cashion would like to go into the business world and get a job with a professional sports team. His favorite book is Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and his favorite TV show is Impractical Jokers. His favorite food is steak with mac and cheese, and he is an expert in American History.

Sam Seeker – San Mateo College – P/OF

Sam Seeker went to Tallmadge High School in Ohio. His best baseball memory comes from winning the state title in 2017 when he hit .313 and had 11 extra-base hits. He was going to continue his baseball career with the Toledo Rockets but then went to California to play at the College of San Mateo and study Business Management. He has played in five games this year for the Bulldogs – with five runs, three RBIs, and a stolen base. He has an on-base percentage at .353. The biggest game for him came in his first game on April 10th at Diablo Valley. He had two hits in four at-bats that game, had an RBI and a walk, and scored three times. The Bulldogs went on to win that game 15-1 and are 5-2 this season.

Seeker bats and throws left. He successfully recovered from UCL surgery and is proud that he can play the game he loves once again. Fettuccine Alfredo is his favorite food, and The Sandlot is his favorite movie. He likes hip-hop and is a Trippie Redd fan. And since leaving for California, Seeker hasn’t left his allegiances to his Ohio sports teams. He roots for the Indians, Cavs, and Buckeyes. He is also a Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers fan (At least at the time we asked these questions…).
