More Out-of-State Mariners to Join

Left to right: Donnie Stone, Garrett Felix, and Ian Yunker.

Our next three athletes also play their college ball out of state. We are going to introduce some guys that play in New York, Louisiana, and South Carolina.

Donnie Stone – Marist – IF/OF

Donnie Stone is from Mays Landing, New Jersey. His best baseball memory comes from his time playing at Cumberland County College when they won the 2019 D3 Juco World Series. In 2020 he transferred to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York where he studies Business Marketing. Last season, he hit .208 in the five games he played for the Red Foxes with five hits and four RBIs. This year, he had a notable fielding game on April 17th against Saint Peter’s. Stone had eight putouts and was a part of three double plays.

Stone bats and throws right-handed and plays in the infield and outfield. In his free time, he likes to listen to all types of music and “chill with the boys”. Similar to Jake Wenning, Stone also loves Disney theme park trivia. That may make for some fun conversations this summer! He roots for all Philadelphia sports teams – the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and 76ers. His favorite athlete is Mike Trout.

Garrett Felix – Bossier Parish Community College – IF/OF

Garrett Felix is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. He just completed his freshman season at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, Louisiana and he will major in Accounting. In 41 games this year, Felix has hit .341 with 47 hits, 40 runs, eight doubles, three home runs, 24 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases. His on-base percentage with the Cavaliers is .462. He was recognized as an honorable mention for the Region XIV East All-Conference by a vote of the coaches in the division.

Felix bats left and throws right. He plays infield and outfield. His favorite food and TV show are actually the same as Donnie Stone – a nice cheeseburger while watching The Office. Becoming an MLB player was the first thing Felix wanted to be when he grew up. He has two chihuahuas named Princess and Charlie and four siblings – Gabrielle, Mia, Nick, and Kameron. LeBron James is his favorite athlete and the Harry Potter series is his favorite set of books.

Ian Yunker – South Carolina Upstate – P

Ian Yunker is from Troy, Ohio, and pitched for Tippecanoe High School. His favorite baseball memory is traveling with his grandpa’s high school team every summer and being their batboy growing up. Perhaps that is why the first thing he wanted to be when he grew up was a professional baseball player. It also might explain why he wants to play baseball as long as possible and then become a college coach. Yunker plays for the Spartans of South Carolina Upstate. He studies Political Science at USC Upstate, but he will be transferring from there.

Yunker bats and throws right-handed. The Oakland Athletics are his favorite team, and it is therefore only fitting that Moneyball is his favorite movie. In his free time, he will work out, listen to music, play basketball (his next favorite sport), or throw a football. Baked ziti is his favorite food and old rock music and rap are his favorite musical genres. Led Zeppelin is his favorite band and Kendrick Lamar is his favorite musical artist.
