Mariners Finish Weekday Road Stretch 1-3

We are now a week into the GLSCL season, and the Mariners sit at a 2-5 record with a couple of very impressive wins and a few close losses.

The Mariners had four road games from Tuesday to Friday this week and went 1-3 in that span. Jet Box beat the Mariners 7-4 on Tuesday night and advanced to 4-0 on the season. Marcus Ernst (Ohio State) had a solo home run that game.

Wednesday saw the Mariners get shut out by the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers 13-0 in seven innings. This was the Ice Haulers’ first win since joining and playing games in the GLSCL this season. The Mariners gave up 12 walks and had four errors.

A different team showed up the next night in Lima, however. The Mariners won 12-7 against the Locos – handing them their first loss of the season after starting 5-0. The Mariners scored seven runs in the third inning. Joel Roediger (Bowling Green) threw five innings in relief – throwing six strikeouts and earning the win. Marcus Ernst was three for six with three runs scored and four RBIs. Garrett Felix (Bossier Parish CC) had a vital triple in the sixth inning that scored two runs.

Friday night was a wild game at Heise Park in Galion. The Mariners were down 10-9 to the Graders in the top of the ninth with two outs, until a run tied the game 10-10 going into the bottom of the ninth. Kaito Hara would hit a walk-off single, however, giving the Graders an 11-10 victory.

This weekend the Mariners have a couple of home games. They face the Ice Haulers on Saturday (6/12) at 7:00, and then the Royal Oak Leprechauns on Sunday (6/13) at 4:00.
